Michael Anastassiades' Arrangements pendant lights show just how much a designer can do with a simple concept elegantly realized. The modular system consists of nine forms--circles, squares, lines, teardrops, and ovals--made from aluminium, silicone, and polycarbonate. The pieces can be suspended from the ceiling in any order, each hanging, like the links in a chain, from the one above. They connect using dovetail joints, which conduct electricity throughout the entire formation. Like Calder's mobiles or Picasso's line drawings, the Arrangements system demonstrates that even the most basic shapes can be combined into weird and wonderful permutations.	Flos	No

Optunia Table

Optunia is a family of lighting elements that comes in four variants for tabletop (with or without stem), floor, wall and suspension. Its functionality lies in the possibility of rotating the two discs that make up the nearly 360-degree head, opening up an extraordinary number of lighting combinations. The lower disc rotates on one axis, while the upper disk simultaneously rotates on a second axis, perpendicular to the first. This double movement gives Optunia to the advantages of both direct and indirect light emission, which exploits the surface of the wall or ceiling to produce a soft light. Complementing its functionality is a design reminiscent of a form found in nature: the two disks resemble the pads of the prickly pear, Opuntia ficus indica, from which the lamp takes its name. A family of exceptional technical sophistication, whose form is further emphasized by its colors: opaque white, bold and clean; dark mirrored chrome, which recalls the preciousness of metal; a darker shade resembling onyx; and quartz, whose color shifts from dark brown to black. Knot is a collection of stately pendant lights that appose two dramatically dissimilar materials. The design combines coarse natural fibre with smooth, transparent blown glass to arouse a contrast as striking as it is dignified. Full-bodied globes of varying shapes and sizes are penetrated by robust cords that seemingly pull the bottom of the glass inward for a bemusing plastic effect. The LED light source is housed in a handsome top hood, which, like the cord end cap, is fashioned in refined metal. Blom Table

Blom is a small table lamp by Andreas Engesvik, a Norwegian designer who has made a name for himself on the international scene thanks to his ability to instil emotions, appeal and ideas into everyday objects. Taking up very little space, just 24 cm tall with a diameter of 15 cm, Blom is a light, fun lamp that is easy to pick up and move and suitable for any purpose. Its name, a contraction of the word blomst, which in Norwegian means flower, is inspired by its petal shaped blades. Intensity can be adjusted thanks to the two petals that gently embrace the diffuser, rotating on the base to shield the glare depending on personal requirements: with the petals aligned the lamp emits maximum light. The compact fluorescent bulb guarantees good effective lighting with low energy consumption. The metal base ensures stability for the lamp and when lit, the polycarbonate petals maintain a temperature that permits touching without the risk of burns. Setareh 4401 Table

This is the name of the family of lighting fixtures that Francesco Librizzi, a young Sicilian architect working in Milan, has designed for the first time for FontanaArte. Setareh was born of the idea of giving form to light. The lamp is composed of a sphere in hand-blown white satin glass, magically suspended within a thin metal structure. The play of circular masses and trajectories generates a balanced design of gravitational dynamics. The light from the sphere is diffused into the surrounding space, illuminating the frame. The reflections of the metal render the luminous field visible, space influenced by light, by its aura. The result is a collection of lighting elements, available in tabletop and suspension versions, of extraordinary poetic grace. The table version is available in two models while the suspension version comes in several variants: bare, with only the frame and glass sphere (also available with three spheres), with a diffuser in curved white glass (diameter 45, 65, 85 cm), or with a painted metal disc in white or black (diameter 45, 65, 85, 100 cm). "Pigreco" means "laziness," but Omar Carraglia's wondrous Pigreco table light is anything but. Beginning with the contrast between wood and glass as materials, Pigreco table was meticulously engineered to play with concepts of matter. A groove in the wooden base holds an LED, which is hidden from view by the glass sphere. The sphere itself is half-frosted, and free of any attachment to the base except that of gravity. As such, it can be turned and rotated freely, allowing the pattern thrown on Pigreco table lamp's surroundings by the light's refraction and diffusion through the sphere to change at your whim.
