ZMIK exists to create unique, bold, and accurate ‘spacial’ environments. As a Studio for Spacial Design, we design spaces as well as spacial strategies and plots. ZMIK operates at the fringes of various disciplines, such as interior design, scenography, architecture, object design, and installation, blending these to achieve integrated solutions to complex questions.
Founded in 2006 by Swiss designers Rolf Indermühle and Mattias Mohr, ZMIK masterminds projects for cultural institutions and private enterprise in the fields of shops and brand environments, exhibition designs, temporary architecture, and conversions. We focus on creating identity, individuality, and communication in space.
ZMIK is currently composed of a team of six designers and architects, aided by a dense network of specialists.
Working with Dutch design firm Moooi, ZMIK produced the popular Kroon lamp series. “Forget about those old-fashioned crystal chandeliers — give your home a sophisticated, contemporary edge with one of ZMIK‘s beautiful pendant lamps, ” writes inhabitant’s Diane Pham.
“Dubbed the Kroon, the lamp is made from LED lighting elements set in a spectacular star-like shape. The industrial lamp casts a lovely low-energy glow over any interior and features a form sure to mesmerize any modernist. ”
The work of ZMIK has been nominated for the Design Preis Schweiz 2009 and the Contract World award in 2011 and 2012. In 2012, ZMIK was shortlisted by Philippe Starck as one of the finalists for the FRAME MOOOI Award.
