Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec
"... as a designer, and like all creative people and scientists, we all participate in the development of a better world, each with a specific skill, and starting from our own dimension. We know for sure that the environment in which we live influences our mood and, consequently, we aspire to take into consideration a better quality world." — Ronan Bouroullec
Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec are brothers and renowned designers based in Paris. Bonded by diligence and challenged by their distinct personalities, they have been working together for over fifteen years.
Ronan and Erwan developed their first industrial design projects in 1997 with the Italian furniture design studio Cappellini. Shortly after, they began working with the Galerie kreo studio, where they hosted their first solo show 2001. Since then, they have worked with a multitude of design firms, including Vitra, Artek, Alessi, Axor Hansgrohe, Cappellini, Established & Sons, Flos, Hay, Kettal, Kvadrat, Kartell, Glas Italia, Ligne Roset, Magis, Iittala, Mattiazzi, Mutina, Nani Marquina, Samsung, and Vitra.
The brothers’ work has covered many fields, ranging from the design of small objects such as jewellery, to spatial arrangements and architecture; from craftsmanship to industrial scale; from drawings to videos and photography. The designers continue with experimental activity at Gallery kreo, which they consider essential to the development of their work.
A number of designs by Ronan and Erwan are featured in the permanent collections of international museums, including the Musée National d’Art Moderne and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Design Museum in London, and the Museum Boijmans van Beuningen in Rotterdam. Several monographic exhibitions have also been devoted to their work in museums across Europe and North America.
In 2013, under the art direction of Cornel Windlin, JRP Ringier published an 864-page paperback book called Drawing, which features more than 850 drawings by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec from between 2005 and 2012.
