Born in Zwollerkerspel in 1967, Dutch designer Richard Hutten graduated from the Academy of Industrial Design in Eindhoven in 1991. That same year he started his own design studio, working on furniture, product, interior, and exhibition design.
Today, Richard is one of the most internationally successful Dutch designers, and is well known for what he refers to as 'no sign of design' furniture — functional furniture created in a highly conceptual and humorous style. He has also been a prominent member of the Droog Design (‘Dry Design) studio in Amsterdam since its inception in 1993.
His work is a part of the permanent collections of the Centraal Museum in Utrecht, Stedelijk Museum of Modern Art in Amsterdam, Vitra Museum Weil am Rhein, and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
Richard has also designed products for Moooi — notably, the Dandelion lamp collection. True to its name, Dandelion was initially inspired by the plant that create the poetic ‘dandelion snow’ of fuzzy, cotton-like seeds when a gush of wind blows on it. The lamp itself transmits an explosive feeling of energy in motion, reaching towards uf from its centre. The lamp provides “striking and pure self-generated energy to lighten up and blow away the heaviness of everyday life. ”
