Born in Padova, Italy, designer Paolo De Lucchi graduated from Architecture at the Milan Polytechnic College.
Paolo’s design career kicked off in 1988, when his “Il Tavolo Interattivo" was displayed at the Palazzo Dell'Arte Triennial of Milan, during the "Il Gioco Delle Parti" exhibition. Between 1989 and 1993 he worked with the studio Sottsass Associati on various architectural and industrial design projects.
In 1994 he joined the studio of Michele De Lucchi — the famous and idiosyncratic furniture designer and Memphis Group founder — with whom he collaborated on important architectural projects in the north of Italy, such as the historical archives centre of Enel (the national electricity board) in Mestre.
Paolo opened the Delucchi Workshop in Padova in 1998, a firm dedicated to architecture, industrial and interior design, and furniture. The studio has worked with a number of high profile companies including Castaldi illuminazione, Club Abbigliamento, Dismero, Estel Group, Mandarina Duck, Mazzega, and Piquadro.
He collaborated with designer Lisa Bellon and the Italian manufacturer Fabbian to design the beautiful Sospesa lamp, composed of a thin sheet of glass with evenly spaced circles punched through it.
“This lamp elegantly illuminates even vast spaces and appears to float in the air, defying all rules of gravity. Thanks to its unique manufacturing process and imposing character, Sospesa adds value and class to any room. It's essential beauty is further enhanced by the grooves which embed the electric circuit, ” explains the Fabbian website.
Paolo also teaches Industrial Design at the Università del Progetto of Reggio Emilia.
