Lukas Peet
"The more limitations you can free yourself from the better chance you have of making something unique or new."
Lukas Peet left his native Canada in 2005 to attend the prestigious industrial design program at the Design Academy Eindhoven in the Netherlands.
After graduating at the top of his class in 2009, Lukas returned to Canada and founded Lukas/Peet Design, which is active in the fields of product design, interior design, graphic design, and public space.
Lukas’s work has been widely published and exhibited internationally, including his first solo exhibition recently at the Design Exchange in Toronto. Lukas received the inaugural RBC Emerging Designer Award in 2014.
His deceptively simple and elegant objects integrate an interest in the materiality of design processes with the item’s functional purpose. “How I deal with shape and form in creating an object is what differentiates me as a designer, ” he explains. “I translate the idea in my head into the object through my hands and eyes. ”
In 2013 Lukas co-founded ANDlight — a contemporary lighting company, based in Vancouver. “With a strong belief in forward thinking and environmentally conscious design through innovative production methods, ANDlight integrates the latest established technologies in lighting, to create functional and unique fixtures, ” states the company's website.
One of Lukas’s notable designs is the Rudi lamp, produced by Roll & Hill. Inspired by jewelry and named after Lukas’s father, who is a jeweler, the lamp is made from bent metal tubes that hold handmade cold cathode lamps.
