Industrial and graphic designer Koray Özgen was born in Ankara, Turkey in 1966. He graduated from the Department of Industrial Design at Middle East Technical University, and completed his Master’s degree in graphic design at Bilkent University. Since 1992, he has lived and worked in Paris.
After finishing at Les Ateliers at Ecole Nationale Superiere de Creation Industrielle in Paris, he founded his studio in 1995. His studio provides multi-disciplinary design solutions for variety of clients including Centre Georges Pompidou, City of Paris, Knoll International France, Lille3000, Skultuna 1607 of Stockholm, Innermost of London, Garanti Bank, and Sisecam-Pasabahçe of Istanbul.
Koray also designs his own range of daily life objects for the Ozgen Design Catalogue (ODC), which he founded with two other partners in 1999. ODC not only supplies high quality products to retailers but also offers corporate gift and bespoke commissioning services.
In 2006, Koray received design prize “Etoile d’Observeur” in Paris. He has exhibited his works not only in France and Turkey, but also in the US, Germany, Hong Kong, Thailand, Japan, Italy, Korea, Sweden, England, Belgium and Spain.
His style is exemplified by the Asteroid lamp, manufactured by Innermost: “Asteroid is a unique geometrical form in which no two of its twenty-four individual faces are identical and no two edge lengths equal, ” explains the Innermost website. “In clusters, this creates the illusion of many different shapes, when there is only one. Asteroid comes in either glass or plastic, with the plastic version made suitable for outdoor use. ”
