Fortuny’s story is one of creative talent and craftsmanship that began more than 100 years ago in Venice, Italy. Born from the passionate partnership between husband and wife/muse duo Mariano Fortuny and Henriette Negrin, Fortuny started as an adventure into the field of textiles, producing perhaps most famously the beautiful Delphos Gown. Soon Palazzo Orfei became their Atelier, a workshop where revolutionary creations, cornerstones of the history of design and fashion, were born and where friends and customers gathered.
Fueled by curiosity, it wasn’t long before the creativity of the two artists took on different forms, producing new artistic curiosities like pleated fabric, the folding dome, the silk lamps, a multi-color printing system, a device to vary the intensity of lighting sources — the first dimmer switch — and a new method for engraving photographic plates.
Today Fortuny’s hand-painted silk lamps and Studio 1907 collection (some of the first lights ever with diffused lighting) are suitable for classic, modern, and avant-garde interiors and as such, are beloved by designers and architects around the world.
