Based in Lombardy, Italy, Catellani & Smith is a lighting design studio experimenting with new materials, shadow, and the influence of nature to create works of art that take into account the importance of energy efficiency. Established in 1989 by Enzo Catellani, today it is a leading company in the lighting sector, unique for its position in the craft industry where it also remains in tune with the most advanced technology.
The tradition of handcrafted luxury remains at the heart of the art-meets-lighting collection from Italian artist Enzo Catellani (Smith was his horse, Logan Smith).
Ideal for residential or hospitality spaces, Catellani & Smith’s lighting collection ranges from exquisite pendants to wall and ceiling lights that celebrate the dance between light and shadow.
Petites Lentilles is the result of a search for refined simplicity, a balance between light and matter. A suspended oval made of natural brass – measuring 120×60 cm – traces a large orbit in space, while small transparent lenses decorate its form, following its lines. Petites Lentilles is a celebration of light in its purest form, demonstrating how an amazing item can be created from the simplicity of a few structural elements.
The antithesis between light and dark, between Sun and Moon, is everlasting, like part of the same flow of existence. Many allegorical meanings have been given to the necessary relationship between two elements that each exist as a consequence of the other. The new lamp Alchemie T, designed by Giulia Archimede for Catellani & Smith, investigates this dimension whose components are diametrically opposed but always, and for ever, connected. Alchemie T is an exquisite sculpture composed of two discs: the former, made of alabaster and lit by LEDs, stays fixed, while the latter, made of brass, slides on a track-base made of Medea limestone just with a light touch of the hand. The interaction between light and shade reaches its peak the moment when the two discs overlap and almost mimic an eclipse.

With PostKrisi Enzo Catellani began working and moulding fibreglass. This material fascinated him due to its incredible versatility and strength, but above all for the shadows it casts when it interacts with light.
Thanks to battery operation and the absence of cables, the new Giulietta BE can be ‘transported’ easily anywhere. With a simple touch of the hand, Giulietta BE can be switched on and set to three different light intensities. Giulietta BE consists of a thin rod – which originates from a circular base – and a circular disc surrounding the rod, apparently without any support. The disc concealing the light source is the distinctive feature of the lamp, which is part of the “Giulietta” collection.
The Lederam Manta S1 Pendant Lamp is a new addition to the popular Lederam lighting collection. Light from the Lederam is projected from a small disc onto a larger disc, casting a delicate ambient glow. Connected to the smaller disc via metal rod, the larger disc has undulating waves like the wings of a manta ray. Available in different colour combinations that include white, gold, satin, black, and copper.
Petits Bijoux is a representation of ‘static movement’, the effect of an action that seems to imitate the gesture of throwing a stone into a pool of water, creating concentric waves that propagate into space. The concept of a sphere, the circle as a metaphor for the infinite and perfection, has been favourite, recurring theme during Catellani & Smith’s thirty years of lamp production, and makes it return in this new pendant lamp, a lamp that is remarkably simple in its design but extraordinary in its workmanship.
The Sorry Giotto suspension/floor light is an elegant source of ambient illumination. Designer Enzo Catellani created it because he wanted "to create one of the simplest, cleanest shapes: the circle. I tried, making a lamp that was minimally intrusive. When I switched it on, its name cam to me immediately: Sorry Giotto." This hanging floor light version is suspended from above and weighted at the bottom so it hangs with ease. This modern floor light is made up of a single ring that is blue hand painted copper. The base is black. This contemporary floor lamp is ideal for home or office.
