About Blu Dot

Ever since coming to life in 1997, Blu Dot has built its brand on a primary goal - to bring good design to as many people as possible. The true meaning of this aspiration comes through creating products that are useful, affordable, and desirable. In order to accomplish this, Blu Dot has a design process founded on collaboration - from pencil and paper, to materials and machines, and even packaging and assembly.

Co-founders Maurice Blanks and John Christakos stand behind this approach, working together to maintain the creative and efficient process that they established over two decades ago. As friends in college with quite a few common interests in art, architecture, and design, Blanks and Christakos also shared a challenge all too familiar for young adults - not being able to afford the home furnishings they desired. They knew they weren’t alone.

So, along with their friend Charlie Lazor, they created Blu Dot. They’ve been designing things they love in their Minneapolis studio every day since.
