Iconic Lighting Collections From Nemo
NEW LIGHTS
Classic and contemporary high-end luminaires for all spaces
Founded in 1993—and owned by former-lawyer-now-lighting-design-enthusiast Federico Palazzari since 2012—designer lighting brand Nemo Lighting has built a reputation for both quality and expressivenes in the lighting designs they make. In addition to remarkable new designs such as the Crown collection of lights (more on that below), Nemo has secured permission to reproduce some of the most iconic—perhaps even legendary—designer lights that helped to define twentieth-century design.
Beginning with timeless lights by titans of design history such as Charlotte Perriand and Vico Magistretti, Nemo incorporates technological updates such as LED lamping to make make these utterly timeless lighting designs once again utterly contemporary. Nemo benefits from Milan's intense relationship with design, putting out lighting old and new that surprises, fascinates, and delights.
Projecteur 165 and 365 Collections by Le Corbusier
The base Projecteur design was created by legendary architect and designer Le Corbusier for the Chandigarh High Court, which he designed and built in 1954. The Projecteur collection's aluminum body comes in a selection of lushly elegant colours, providing an aesthetic contrast to its industrial-looking screws and bolts. Nemo's reengineered Projecteur collection features two sizes with a range of typologies, including floor/table, wall/ceiling, pendant, and clamp versions, as well as outdoor-rated suspension and wall versions.
Potence Pivotante Wall Collection
A wall fixture that manages to be both simple and surprising, the Potence Pivotante, designed by Charlotte Perriand—who worked with Le Corbusier from 1927-1937—has one long arm fixed to the wall, with an equally long arm that terminates in an opal glass bubble free to pivot horizontally 180 degrees. Discreet, bold, and everything in between, the aluminum Potence is also available in a MINI version.
Parliament Floor Lamp
Le Corbusier's design for Chandigarh's parliament stands out for its two-tone, twin-emission design. Available in matte black and yellow or white and grey, it's suitable for precise as well as broader lighting needs. As elegant as it is utilitarian, the Parliament blends with a wide range of décors.
Lampe de Marseille Wall Collection
Reminiscent of early 20th-century bullhorns, the Lampe de Marseille—named for the Unité d'Habitation de Marseille apartments for which Le Corbusier designed it in 1949—this double-joined, double-sided lamp is suitable for workspaces, art spaces, bedrooms, and other living spaces. Available in original and MINI sizes, and a selection of colours.
Claritas Floor Light
Claritas floor lamp was renowned Milanese architect and furniture designer Vico Magistretti's first lighting design. Made for Mario Tedeschi in 1946, Claritas' distinctive black bent-metal shade is open in the front, back, and below, creating a complex interplay of light and shadow that energize as well as illuminate the spaces it inhabits.
Borne Béton Outdoor Floor Lights
Le Corbusier conceived of these heavy, concrete pieces as part of a dam project in India in 1952. But, separated from their original infrastructural context, they are striking yard pieces, and even more striking interior lighting. At once sophisticated and uncomplicated, Borne Béton—available in both Grande floor and Petite table variants—is definitive statement lighting.
Applique à Volet Pivotante Collection
Perriand's design for the Applique à Volet Pivotante collection of wall lights creates both light and points of focal darkness. Taking the form of large and small rectangles in red, yellow, blue, or black, these wall-mounted fixtures feature swiveling aluminum plates that disperse and block the light, creating broad wings of light with opaque hubs. Perfect for bedsides or scattered in multiples across walls.
Crown Collection
Available in 11 variations, including pendant, chandelier, and floor light variants, contemporary German designers Markus Jehs and Jürgen Laub's Crown is made of painted die-cast aluminum with sandblasted glass diffusers and either clear or red cable. The lighting equivalent of Moshe Safdie's Habitat, its multi-level modularity is sure to catch and hold the eye.
Applique de Marseille
A variation on his Parliament lighting design, Le Corbusier designed this wall-mounted lamp for his own apartment on Rue Nungesser in Paris. Available in matte grey, black, or white aluminum, the substantial, solid Applique de Marseille illuminates up and down or—if you prefer—side to side.
