Pablo Figuera is an Spanish industrial designer, and one half of Goula/Figuera Studio, a Barcelona-based design firm he founded with Álvaro Goula.
Pablo studied design at the Elisava School of Design and Engineering in Barcelona. He also has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Southampton, and a PhD in Design Management from the Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya. Pablo co-founded Goula/Figuera in 2012, after a stint as a designer with Boo Barcelona.
Goula/Figuera’s work strikes a balance between conceptual and commercial design, where industry values and creativity converge and feedback with one another. Pablo and Álvaro’s design process is guided by the following principles: “obsessive care about the object’s shape, which expresses aesthetic values through its material, the respect for the fabrication process and, of course, utility. ” Their works are elegant, easy to understand, and devoid of superficial decoration.
Their work has received a number of awards and nominations, including the Design Plus Award (2012), the Lexus Design Award (2013), the 1st Critics’ Award Red Spanish Design Brands Association (2013), and the Injuve Award (2012).
Recently, Pablo and Álvaro established Home Adventures — a new brand that “arises from the need we had to make certain somewhat fanciful ideas tangible. Ideas that you would never think would interest companies, ” they explain. “Understandably, when we work for others our creativity is always conditioned by market and production needs. Therefore Home Adventures is the luxury we allow ourselves when we feel the need to create openly and unconditionally. “
