Mads Odgård is one of the most experienced and recognized industrial designers in Denmark. His extensive oeuvre covers a wide range of products, including watches, cutlery, furniture, and lamps. His design credo, “keep it simple, and the earth livable, ” shines through in each product he creates.
Mads studied at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Denmark’s Design School, and Art Center Europe in Switzerland. In 1988, he founded The Mads Odgård Design Studio. The studio’s mission is to improve that which already exists, and to create products that provide its user with spontaneous delight.
As a designer, he is a minimalist — a 'less is more' man — who would rather deduct than add. More than anything, he believes that excellent design must be logical and functional if it is to endure.
“Design should be human and logical in form, ” he explains “The design process consists of a series of choices and I must make the best possible at every step. Products must be understandable if they are to endure and reach all walks of life. ”
Mads has designed and developed a wide range of products for a long list of reputable and visionary clients from both Scandinavia and abroad, including the Danish lighting firm Louis Poulsen, for which he designed the LP Icon and MO 500 series.
