With Cathode suspension light by Omar Carraglia, Davide Groppi brings us a luminaire inspired by early electronics and steampunk philosophy. The Cathode pendant reexamines the classic incandescent lightbulb as a design object. Using a 5.5W integrated LED instead of a tungsten filament, it directs its light down through a blown-glass bulb-like shade. This light is then diffused downwards through the opal bottom of the shade, which also reflects light upwards through the clear upper section, drawing attention to the interior brass element that houses the LED source. A futuristic version of the past, Cathode is a lighting design that celebrates the electric light, the geniuses who gave it to us, and the future to which it will light the way.
