Maija 30 Floor

In 1955 Ilmari Tapiovaara, a remarkable specialist in chairs and furniture, undertook a project to create a lamp. His source of inspiration at the time was Maya the Bee (German: Die Biene Maja), a friendly character from a 1912 children's book, known as Maija in Finland. The Maija collection is an expression of the feeling of light that is common in the cities of the Baltic: from the inside out. Tapiovaara conceived a column of small metal superimposed discs from which the light hangs out from a shimmering honeycomb, shrouded in warm life. The tripod on which the structure rests and the recesses that allow the light to disperse upwards are particularly striking. The discs were originally in a light pink colour, subsequently white was produced and nowadays Santa & Cole offers both alternatives. Tapiovaara stated: â€œIt is impossible to create a new object without a point of reference. Nature is the best and nearest manual for industrial designers whether in terms of its function, in other words, functional requirements, or in terms of shape, colour, material and their arrangement in appropriate proportionsâ€. And so we present his only lamp in three different versions: the floor lamp, the table lamp and the pendant lamp.	Santa & Cole	No

Tripode G6 Table 25th Anniversary Edition

Since its creation in 1997, the Tripode by Santa & Cole has established itself over the years as an icon throughout the world. The design highlights the extraordinary in its simplicity. It features a bundle of three tubes joined to raise a wide ribboned lampshade. To commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Tripode design, Santa & Cole present two new lampshades in collaboration with designer Júlia Esqué. Playing with black and white, Esqué came up with the fine-striped Diplomático ribbon, and thick-striped Bretona ribbon — two new ribbons that provide rhythm and personality (available in the three Tripode sizes). Maija 15 Table

Tapiovaara said that “it is impossible to create a new object without a point of reference—and nature is the best and closest manual for the industrial designer; whether in terms of the object’s purpose, that is, its functional requirements, or in terms of shape, colour, material and adequate proportion”. In 1955, when Alvar Aalto was the dominant figure of Helsinki’s cultural life, Ilmari Tapiovaara presented himself as the first Finnish non-architect designer. An expert in chairs and furniture, he created his sole and unique household lamp: Maija. The Maija collection conveys the feeling of light in Baltic cities, where the streets are barely illuminated, apart from the light beaming through the windows of homes and shops: from the inside, outwards. Inspired by this, Tapiovaara created a honeycomb structure composed of stacked metal discs that filters out its happy inner light. Tripode G6 Table

Trípode is a family conceived to lend neutral spaces a warmer touch through the use of colour. This series features two sizes of table lamps, a widely known floor version (the G5), in addition to a pendant lamp version in various sizes. Designed in 1994, the GT5 pendant lamp was the first of a large family created as an alternative to the use of cardboard, methacrylate, or solid textile shades; the use of handmade cotton ribbon reincorporates traditional craftsmanship. With the light on, the shade provides a warm light, rich in nuances. With the light off, this lamp is a sculptural statement piece that enhances the room. Each shade is handmade, as Santa & Cole continues to favour the use of ribboned shades to dress up every kind of light sources, through various textile materials. In our search for the perfect hues, we collaborated with the studio Raw Color in Eindhoven (Holland) to create new ribbons. Each woven from three distinct yarns that created new colours: terracotta, mustard yellow and forest green. The three basic colours in the ribbon collection, natural white, amber red and black (available since 1994), complete the range of six colours available. The family, particularly the floor version, is considered a true symbol of contemporary design: simple, colourful and functional.	Santa & Cole	No
