Americana Table

The Americana series was devised by Miguel Milá in the mid-1960s to pay tribute to George Hansen's epic 1950s lamp collection. The Hansen lamps are based on a rotating arm with a swivel situated in the middle dividing the horizontal axis into two sections: one end is pinned onto the vertical shaft of the lamp holding it aloft and the other end is fastened onto the shade support. As a result, the whole arm can swing around, be folded in or opened out from the middle. Enthralled by the idea of enhancing Hansen's already remarkable geometry, Milá's Americana series is also based on a swing arm, albeit with a single section forming a right angle with the shaft this time round. Accordingly, the swivel allowing the shade to swing around horizontally is affixed at the top of the shaft, reducing the lever effect. Although the arm cannot be opened out or folded in on itself, it can be moved towards you or away from you without shifting the large metal base. The Optic glass has slight variances due to the handmade process, which makes each piece unique. Fil de Fer is a lighting fixture made of shaped, woven aluminium wire, which is lit on the inside by tiny bulbs. Designed and made by Enzo Catellani, it is the creation closest to his heart. Developed almost twenty years ago for a special commission, it was never used for that particular project and was hung up in his workshop. Setareh 4384 Table

This is the name of the family of lighting fixtures that Francesco Librizzi, a young Sicilian architect working in Milan, has designed for the first time for FontanaArte. Setareh was born of the idea of giving form to light. The lamp is composed of a sphere in hand-blown white satin glass, magically suspended within a thin metal structure. The play of circular masses and trajectories generates a balanced design of gravitational dynamics. The light from the sphere is diffused into the surrounding space, illuminating the frame. The reflections of the metal render the luminous field visible, space influenced by light, by its aura. The result is a collection of lighting elements, available in tabletop and suspension versions, of extraordinary poetic grace.
