Werner Aisslinger
"In a way, a designer is a producer of vision and utopia, even though most people tend to live fairly conservative and conventional lives. You could say we are the pace-makers of a future lifestyle that will then slowly implement itself in everyday life."
Werner Aisslinger, born in Nördlingen, Germany in 1964, studied industrial design at the Hochschule der Künste (HdK) in Berlin. Between 1989-92 he worked as a freelancer for famed designers Ron Arad and Jasper Morrison, and at the Studio de Lucchi in Milan.
In 1993, Werner founded his own office in Berlin, which places emphasis on product design, design concepts, and brand architecture. With an impressive list of clients and partners, Studio Aisslinger is dedicated to experimental and artistic approaches to design through the sophisticated use of new materials and technologies.
“Today's lightning-speed technological advancements have led to the appearance of three-dimensional fibreglass, gels, aluminium foam, three-dimensional textiles, and neoprenes from which entirely new products can be created. , ” states the studio’s website. “Aesthetically, the design of these future products will be utilitarian, organic, reduced, soft, puristic, poetic, modular, and nomadic. ”
Werner has received several international awards, including a Compasso d'Oro, the Design Prize of the Federal Republic of Germany, a Red Dot Award, and an FX Award in the United Kingdom. His work is exhibited in the permanent collections of international museums such as the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum in New York, the Fonds National d´Art Contemporain in Paris, the Museum Neue Sammlung in Munich, and the Vitra Design Museum in Weil, Germany.
Werner is also an educator, with extensive teaching experience at the HdK in Berlin, the Lahti Design Institute in Helsinki, and the Hochschule for Gestaltung in Karlsruhe.
