Rodolfo Dordoni
"What helps, in our work, is a singular reading of objects. For me an object of luxury, exclusive, must be sober and solid, no frills or embellishments. Like a Rolex or a Porsche, even if I'm not passionate about cars or watches, except as design objects."
Rodolfo Dordoni is one of the most important Italian architects, industrial designers, furniture designers, artists, and publishers of the 21st century. Born in Milan in 1954, Rodolfo graduated with a degree in Architecture in 1979 from the Milan Polytechnic, a university that has produced a number of high-caliber architects.
After his degree, Rodolfo designed a variety of stunning products, paving the way for his future as the artistic director for a number of leading companies in the Italian and international design scene, including Artemide, Cappellini, FontanaArte, and Foscarini. He has been the artistic director for Minotti since 1997, and for Roda since 2006.
Rodolfo has also designed products for a wide variety of high-profile design firms, such as Olivari, Salvatori, Sambonet, Fiam Italia, Driade, Moroso, Serralunga, Tecno, Cassina, Jab, Kettal, and many others in Europe and beyond.
In 2005, Rodolfo founded the Studio Dordoni Architetti in partnership with Alessandro Acerbi and Luca Zaniboni. The studio produces architecture and interior design for residential, commercial, and exhibition settings, including villas, private homes, industrial and commercial spaces, exhibition stands, restaurants, and hotels.
“Our strength has always been the balance between craftsmanship and industrial applicability, and we are able to combine so sublime talent craftsmanship of the individual with the serial production, ” Rodolfo describes. “No coincidence that our labor is so dear: it is among the best in the world. "
Some notable lamps designed by Rodolfo and produced by Flos include All Light, Pochette, and Ray.
