Born in 1975 in Nice, France, Philippe Nigro studied applied arts and product design at La Martinière School and École Boulle. Today, he is an independent designer based in Milan.
Philippe began his design career in 1999 alongside Michele De Lucchi, with whom he collaborated on many design projects for products, furniture, lighting, interior design, events, and scenography until 2012. He has worked in collaboration with several design firms such as Foscarini, Ligne Roset, Olivetti, Poltrona Frau, Artemide, Alias, Caimi, Interni, Feg, Listone Giordano, and Hermès.
Since 2005, Philippe’s work has been supported by the Valorisation of Innovation in Furnishing (VIA). His notable furniture designs include the “Spiral” shelf, the “Storage-Unit” and the “Intersections” sofas — later renamed “Confluences” and produced by Ligne Roset. In 2009, he designed the “Universal Base”, rechristened the “T. U. ” (again by Ligne Roset), and the “Twin-Chairs” seats, both of which are currently exhibited in the Centre Pompidou.
In 2013, Philippe introduced a brilliant new collection of furniture produced in collaboration with Hermès, called 'Les Nécessaires d'Hermès. ' Each piece, from low benches and puffy square-shaped stools to stackable side tables and decorative screens, features compact dimensions and a clever air of multi-functionality.
“The idea was not to create huge star furniture, but rather to create things that could easily travel within the interiors of any home, ” he explains.
