Peter Stathis
"Link seamlessly balances performance and style."
Peter Stathis began his career in New York upon graduating from the Pratt Institute in 1981, working in various design fields for many of the city's leading studios. Upon receiving his MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 1989, he subsequently returned to New York as a researcher for NYNEX Science and Technology, and senior designer at Smart Design.
Fascinated by the social and cultural dimensions of objects, Peter’s work seeks to foster meaningful relationships through today's sophisticated, mass-produced environment. He executes this goal by working in both the high-minded and popular realms, having designed for brands ranging from the Museum of Modern Art to Lava Lite.
Peter is also the principal leading Virtual Studio, a San Francisco-based design, development, and licensing-venture studio with an emphasis in furnishings and products for both home and office. He has earned over 35 international awards within the past three years for his innovative designs featuring advanced aesthetics combined with cutting-edge technology.
His objects — like the Link lamp for Pablo Design — have been widely featured within design and business press, and are included in the permanent collections of several major museums. Recent awards include Interior Design magazine Best of Year Award, New York’s International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) Editors Award, the International Design Excellence Award (IDEA), and the prestigious Red Dot Design Award.
Alongside professional practice, for over the past twenty-five years Peter has taught within and led many of the country's leading academic design programs, including as the Chair of the Design Department at Philadelphia's University of the Arts, and as Director of the world-renown graduate 3D Design Department at Cranbrook Academy of Art.
