Ladies & Gentlemen Studio is a bi-coastal design studio operating between Seattle and Brooklyn and embracing the best of both coasts. L&G Studio's aesthetic and design philosophy is a balanced blend of warm minimalism, playful austerity, and simple sophistication.
Founded by Dylan Davis and Jean Lee in 2010, L&G Studio's playful explorations in materiality blend their resourceful curiosity with the desire to find unexpected pairings of material and function. Their focus is on creating a diverse set of products from small objects, home decor goods, jewelry, to furniture, lighting, and beyond.
Their open, multidisciplinary approach to design yields an unexpected, ever-evolving set of ideas and experiments collected from their everyday discoveries, explorations, and surroundings.
“Our latest work seeks to use shapes, materials, and effects in ways that express an object’s elemental function and meaning, ” they explain. “It’s strives to be expressionistic (a Memphis trait), but in the most minimal honest way possible (which is much more Scandinavian and Japanese). ”
Working with Roll & Hill, L&G have designed a number of gorgeous lighting fixtures, including Shape Up — a versatile lighting series that celebrates bold geometric shapes: the playful juxtapositions upend traditional notions of symmetry in favor of a dynamic spatial harmony. The modular system allows the shapes to be suspended and composed in response to a space's architecture and function, its shades discreetly networked via connecting cords and hubs.
