Born in Toulouse in 1966 and educated at the renowned Les Ateliers Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Création Industrielle in Paris, Jean Marie Massaud has crafted a dynamic career path, as an architect, a designer, and an inventor.
In 2000, Jean Marie founded Studio Massaud in partnership with fellow designer Daniel Pouzet. The studio has collaborated with several major brands including Axor, Cassina, Foscarini, Poliform, Christofle, Cappellini, B&B Italia, Dorn Bracht, and Toyota.
Jean Marie’s designs seeks to synthesize three distinct goals: individual and collective fulfillment, economic and industrial efficiency, and environmental concerns: “I’m trying to find an honest, generous path with the idea that, somewhere between the hard economic data, there are users. People. ”
His creations, whether speculative or pragmatic, explore this imperative paradigm: reconciling pleasure with responsibility, the individual with the collective.
Some of Jean Marie’s innovative designs include a stunning ‘cloud- and volcano-shaped’ stadium in Guadalajara, Mexico, and a concept car called the MeWe, built in collaboration with Toyota, and designed to synthesize economical and ecological imperatives.
“When I’m working on a project, there’s always an attempt to renew the subject I’m involved in, ” he explains.
Jean Marie has won several international design awards, including a Green Good Design Award, an Interior Innovation Award, Wallpaper Design Awards, and a Compasso d’Oro in 2011.
