Dutchman Danny Fang (1975) graduated from the renowned Design Academy Eindhoven in 1998. After working as a freelance designer and developing a project for fair trade in Kenya and Zimbabwe, he worked at the Dutch Institute of Applied Scientific Research for almost two years.
In 2007, Danny moved to Hong Kong, where he set up Fang Studio Ltd. , design company that produces products for Asian manufacturing. Danny’s focus has been on working with Asian manufacturers to develop a design-driven culture within the realm of mass manufacturing. With the slogan 'Create Love, Not More', Fang not only designs products and interiors for his clients from all over the world, but also tries to influence the nature of the industry in China.
“Design needs to contribute to the world in an inspiring, comfortable and attractive way, ” states the studio’s website. “Everyday our needs change because our environment evolves. To give focus and relevance to a project we need to study the way we live, the way we work and the way we interact with each other. ”
Working with Moooi, Danny produces the Salago lamp — a product born out of his fascination for the timeless value of mastering a craft in contrast with the quick pace of mass production. By combining the techniques of paper mache and paper pulping he created the lamp with a strong structure and an incredibly light body.
In 2008, Danny was elected by Perspective Magazine as one of the “40 Under 40” talented and young individuals who lead Asia’s design industry.
