Danish designer Christian Flindt was born in 1972. He graduated from the Aarhus School of Architecture in Denmark in 2002, and started his own design company the following year.
Christian’s design philosophy is guided by his concern for communication — a concern that finds expression in his unique approach to and re-evaluation of furniture. To put it plainly, Christian wants his furniture to inspire people to make new connections.
His furniture and chair designs — including Orchid, Ripple Chair, and Light Lounger — won him praise across the design world, and piqued the interest of one of Denmark’s premier lighting firms:
“Louis Poulsen saw my final furniture project from the School of Architecture in Aarhus, approached me and asked if I could also make a light fixture for them, ” Christian explained to darc magazine. “They liked my sculptural approach and the playful way I used different materials. ”
In 2006, Christian began a fruitful collaboration with Louis Poulsen lighting, which has in recent years produced a number of popular lamps, including the Grand collection and the Flindt Bollard, the latter of which was designed to illuminate parks and other public outdoor spaces.
Christian has held exhibitions and participated in trade fairs all over the world, and has been awarded a number of prestigious prizes including the Bo Bedre Design Award, the Bolig Magasinet Design Award, the Knud V. Engelhardts Memorial Scholarship, and the ELFORSK Prize, awarded by the Danish Department of Energy and Electricity.
