Glass and light always fascinated Federico de Majo. He began his career early, working in the family glassworks on the island of Murano. This led to an interest in design, which led to the 2001 launch of Zafferano. After several years of releasing his own quality designer home and tableware, Federico de Majo added bespoke designs and creations to his offerings.
In 2005, de Majo founded AiLati to serve as a brand through which he could release his own designer lighting creations. This allowed more interior designers and specifiers to use his designs and brought production costs down from the previous bespoke-only system. As the business grew, de Majo maintained his commitment to craftsmanship and quality materials, creating a line of luxury designer lights.
Zafferano underwent a restructuring and rebranding in 2021, which was intended to clarify who and what the brand its creator value. AiLati was brought into the Zafferano family as Zafferano AiLati, the new bespoke-focused label. Meanwhile, their designer portable lights were made available through another label: Zafferano Lampes-à-porter. Regardless of the label, however, Federico de Majo's vision, integrity, and commitment to design remains as it always has been: bold, truthful, and expressive.
