In 1944, Emeco began crafting chairs from salvaged aluminum for the US Navy during World War II. Their first product, the iconic 1006 Navy chair, was designed to be indestructible. Over the years, Emeco has expanded beyond military use, becoming a symbol of sustainable design by turning scrap materials into long-lasting furniture.
Emeco has since collaborated with renowned designers like Philippe Starck, Frank Gehry, and Norman Foster, exploring innovative uses of recycled materials such as PET bottles and discarded wood. Emeco's mission remains unchanged: "Begin with what's left over. Turn it into what will last."
As they celebrate 80 years, Emeco continues to push the boundaries of design while staying true to their roots and creating sustainable, durable, timeless furniture, all starting with a simple, indestructible chair.
