Stickbulb’s Treeline: Raising the Bar for Sustainable Lighting Design
NEW LIGHTS
The Treeline Collection with Stickbulb co-founders Russell Greenberg and Christopher Beardsley
There are about 13,000 trees that get cut down in New York City annually. As we have undeniably reached a point in history where environmental sustainability is not just a choice but a necessity, New York City-based and certified B-Corporation Stickbulb is one of the most innovative design brands that fully commit and embody their ecologically responsible ethos. Their latest collection, called Treeline, stands out as an ideal model of sustainable, low impact design as it diverts felled trees in New York City and turns them into high quality and high-performance light fixtures. Combining meticulous craftsmanship with an unwavering commitment to environmental responsibility, Treeline is not only a powerful lighting solution but also a testament to Stickbulb’s dedication to creating beautiful, sustainable products.
A Symphony of Power and Beauty
The Treeline collection delivers an impressive 1,800 lumens per foot, ensuring that spaces are illuminated with a bright, yet soft, light. This exceptional performance is housed within an enclosure made from salvaged wood. This unique material choice gives each piece a storied texture and character, available in three iconic finishes: black, natural, and white.
Specifiers can choose their Treeline fixtures to emit direct or indirect lighting or both at once.

Innovation in Design and Maintenance
One of Treeline’s standout features is its patent-pending Future Proof Panel. This innovative design allows the panel to be opened without the need for tools, providing clear visibility and easy access to all electrical components and wiring connections. This ensures not only straightforward maintenance and repairs but also facilitates end-of-life processing, making Treeline a truly sustainable option from start to finish.
The Treeline’s Future Proof Panel makes it easy to access its electrical components for repair and maintenance, making the fixture long lasting and sustainable.
A Deep Connection to New York City
Grown in NYC
New York City boasts over seven million street and park trees, collectively known as NYC’s urban forest. These trees play a crucial role in the city's ecosystem, providing shade, reducing carbon emissions, offering habitats for wildlife, and enhancing the urban landscape. Stickbulb’s collaboration with Trees New York underscores their commitment to planting, preserving, and protecting this vital resource through education and community engagement.
Salvaged in NYC
The wood used in Treeline comes from Pin-oaks, the second most populous tree species in NYC. Annually, over 12,500 trees are removed due to construction and storms, often ending up as wood chips. However, Stickbulb works closely with the NYC Parks Department and other urban forestry partners to rescue this wood from the waste stream. By repurposing it into the Treeline collection, they actively contribute to a sustainable urban environment. Their involvement with Forest For All NYC further highlights their dedication to the city's green spaces.
From Salvage to Studio: Made in NYC
The journey of the salvaged wood begins on the Brooklyn waterfront, just over a mile from Stickbulb's studio. This proximity allows for the wood to be processed and milled locally, despite the challenges posed by urban wood, such as embedded nails and fence posts. Once processed, the wood is transported to Stickbulb’s studio, where it is meticulously crafted into the Treeline fixtures by their skilled production team.
The Treeline collection from Stickbulb is a remarkable fusion of sustainability, innovation, and exquisite design. By transforming salvaged urban wood into high-performance lighting solutions, Stickbulb not only preserves the beauty and utility of these trees but also sets a high standard for sustainable design practices. The Treeline collection is more than just a series of light fixtures; it is a reflection of Stickbulb's vision for a sustainable future, where every product tells a story of environmental stewardship and artisanal excellence.
