A Foundation in Material and Form
Born in 1981, Herkner studied Product Design at the HfG Offenbach University of Art and Design, where he developed a strong focus on objects, furniture, and the relationship between material and form. An early experience working with Stella McCartney in London sharpened his sensitivity to colour, texture, versatility, and composition.

In 2019 he was named Maison&Objet Designer of the Year, followed by EDIDA Best Designer of the Year in 2021.

Petal for Rakumba
The Petal Collection reflects Herkner’s ability to translate natural forms into structured design. Inspired by botanical elements, the collection introduces layered forms that create depth and softness within a space.
Herkner has decided the Petal Table Lamp should be placed on its side as one would set a bouquet of flowers on a table. He was also inspired by Constantin Brancusi’s Sleeping Muse sculpture laying on its head.
Developed in collaboration with Rakumba, the Petal collection continues an ongoing dialogue between designer and manufacturer. The result is a collection that is sculptural, balanced, and highly adaptable across different interior contexts.
Metropol for Rakumba
The Metropol Collection demonstrates precision and restraint. Its defining feature is a finely detailed trifoliate glass form that emits a warm, controlled light.
Available as a sconce or pendant, and in single or stacked configurations, Metropol offers flexibility without compromising its identity. The design delivers presence while allowing surrounding architecture to remain prominent. This clarity reflects Herkner’s ability to create lighting that supports space rather than competes with it.
Volute for Rakumba
With the Volute Collection, Herkner advances Rakumba’s textile craftsmanship into new territory. The design draws on scrolled forms found in nature and transforms them into complex, three-dimensional lighting objects.
The collection challenges conventional lampshade construction by introducing layered fabric shells that produce a soft, diffused glow. Available in pendant, table, and floor versions, Volute combines technical complexity with a calm visual presence.
Raku for &Tradition
The Raku lamp references the traditional Japanese ceramic technique from which it takes its name. Its hand-finished base features a crackle glaze that ensures each piece is unique.
Compact in scale yet strong in character, Raku highlights Herkner’s focus on material expression. It demonstrates how subtle variation and craftsmanship can define the identity of an object.
Flip for AGO Lighting
The Flip Table and Floor Lamps for AGO Lighting focus on usability and interaction. The adjustable head allows users to easily shift between direct and indirect lighting.
This simple movement defines the experience of the product. It provides clarity in function and reinforces Herkner’s commitment to intuitive design. The result is a lighting solution that is practical and engaging.
