Meet the Latest Lighting Designs You Didn't Know You Needed
Every now and then, a customer will walk into one of our showrooms and say "gosh, you have such beautiful lights on display, both in your showrooms across Canada and on your website, but how can I satisfy my tremendous desire to learn about the newest releases from prominent designer lighting brands?"
And, as much as we wish he would stop doing this and just talk to us like a normal person, his suspiciously-SEO-friendly question is nonetheless one worthy of addressing.
With this in mind, we've curated this list of nine highlights from the many, many designer lights and lighting collections we've been lucky enough to add to our website's offering over the last few months.
British lighting brand Bert Frank continues its love affair with the iconic mid-century modern and Art Deco design styles in their latest creation, the Vima collection. Bold, regal, and dignified, the Vima collection is marked by lithe alabaster arches surrounding a lacquered brass plate that holds an oblong diffuser in opal glass.
The Vima collection features floor and table lamps, a wall sconce, and two sizes of pendant lights. This breadth of selection empowers designers and homeowners looking to build lighting plans with a refined, stately, yet fun flavour.
Parachilna's Gweilo collection of lights draws upon technological innovation to produce its expressive forms and distinctly ethereal presence. Every Gweilo light features laser-etched channels that transmit the light provided from the LED strip at one edge, producing a hauntingly beautiful ambient glow. In Gweilo (Chinese for "ghost"), Canadian design collective PARTISANS sought to capture light itself as a workable material, a goal they realized by creating the process through which the collection's languid forms could be hand-moulded by Parachilna craftspeople.

PARTISANS and Parachilna have dubbed the line's new suspension light "Gweilo Zhou," which continues the tradition of naming these spectral lights after Chinese imperial dynasties. Gweilo Zhou suspension light joins Gweilo Song table light and the two floor lights, Gweilo Han and Gweilo Qin, to offer you a range of size and style options that will haunt your living room, study, or bedroom with pleasant warmth.
At the heart of Original BTC's success is an esteem for British history and craftsmanship. The silken luxury of their bone china is produced in a dedicated production facility in Stoke-on-Trent, which has been the centre of British pottery and ceramics for nearly four centuries. The Pebble collection, Original BTC's latest, is a testament to the love and devotion the brand has for this elegantly refined material.

The Pebble collection's name is reflected in the forms of Pebble pendant and Pebble ceiling light. Their overall shapes are, of course, evocative of near-spherical pebbles; however, where the true genius emerges is in the constituent bone china plates that comprise these expressive luminaires. Each individual plate is itself shaped like a softly-rounded pebble lying in a riverbed and worn smooth by the light that flows over its surface like water.
Original BTC's Pebble collection lights bring a sense of enervating calm and tranquility to dining rooms, kitchens, and powder rooms.
New from Flos: In Vitro Unplugged Portable Table Light
As fans of fertilization will already know, "In Vitro" is Latin for "in glass." Legendary design polymath Philippe Starck created Flos' In Vitro collection to be as sleek and simple as possible, without a visible source for the light that the inverted glass dome catches, reflects, and refracts (spoiler alert: it's a recessed LED behind an opal diffuser in the top of each light. Not--repeat, not--"gremlins," as it would be very, very irresponsible to tell customers, Phil.)
New within the In Vitro collection is the portable table lamp, In Vitro Unplugged. Like the rest of the In Vitro family, In Vitro Unplugged is wet-rated, with the dome completely sealed to ensure that its light is never marred by dust or moisture collecting within. By adding a rechargeable battery within the signature In Vitro aluminium cage, Starck and Flos invite you to take In Vitro's warm, atmospheric glow wherever you go.
New from DCWéditions: Yasuke Table Light
Yasuke table light, designed for DCWéditions by Studio BrichetZiegler, combines extraordinary adaptability with an intriguing modern aesthetic
DCWéditions devotes itself to celebrating the icons of lighting design. They celebrate the past through re-releases of classic lighting designs, such as Bernard Schottlander's Mantis reading lights, with updated technology. But, at the same time, they also celebrate the future through the cultivation of vibrant and new lighting designs that are destined to become icons. Yasuke table lamp is such a design.
Dual dimmer controls allow you to set Yasuke table light to exactly the light level and colour temperature that your space desires
Studio BrichetZiegler drew inspiration for Yasuke from the historical figure from whom it takes its name: an African slave who became a valued and respected retainer to the most powerful Japanese daimyo of his era. This transcendence of expectations and fate is found in the confluence of concepts in Yasuke table light: the simple and complex, the past and the future, boldness and restraint. Moreover, its dual dimmer controls--which enable you to adjust light level and colour temperature independently--Yasuke table lamp is as versatile as it is stunning in offices, living rooms, and restaurant lighting plans.
Gabriel Scott offers its signature luxury and elegance in the latest addition to the LunaA-Seriescollection. The A-Series builds on the blown glass forms that define the Lunacollectionoflights, with a greater focus on strength and drama.
Luna A-Series Desk Lamp features a solid marble base, out of which grows a glowing opal glass column. The light from this column is then caught by the transparent outer glass diffuser, creating a breathtaking glow that you control with an inline dimmer.
Whether illuminating pleasant gatherings in a sitting room or making a statement in an office or study, Luna A-Series Desk Lamp from Gabriel Scott is a refined and distinguished companion.
The first release from a-emotional light and designer Arturo Alvarez since he sold the brand to refocus his attention wholly on art and design, the Mytilus collection proves that nothing has changed. Alvarez's voice as a designer is as clear and expressive as ever, and the inspiration he derives from the organic forms of the natural world is still perfectly intimate.
The two Mytilus suspension lights (single and composition) and their wall sconce sibling find their lissome shapes in the motion of ocean currents and the life (such as the mytilus genus of mussels) over which they wash. The sinuous curves of Mytilus' diaphanous steel mesh enrobe the opal glass diffuser, capturing motion in stillness and vivaciousness in tranquility.
Every Argent collection light is meticulously handcrafted, with dozens, if not hundreds, of metal discs painstakingly joined by hand. The resulting shapes are something between a cloud and a shrubbery shimmering with morning dew. Designed for Terzani by Dodo Arslan, the Argent collection of lights enjoys a wide selection of suspension lights in sizes suited to a range of spaces, each available in three finishes to complement any colour scheme: the silvery stainless steel, the opulent gold, and the breathtaking rose gold.
And yet, despite the collection's range, it has never had a wall light--until now. With the introduction of Argent wall sconce to the Argent family, Arslan and Terzani offer you new power to create cohesively-styled lighting plans requiring soft, intimate, yet intriguing light such as restaurant dining rooms and lounges.
When Lukas Bazle designed Plié Plissé pendant light for Moooi, he drew on an array of concepts and inspirations. The result is a designer light that is more than just organically-inspired, but actually adapts to your needs as an evolving organism does. Comprised of dozens of cells within the plissé that gives it its name, Plié Plissé suspension light makes use of this biological concept not only for aesthetics, but to enhance the light's functionality.
Plié Plissé pendant light's adjustable lower diffuser can be pushed in (left) to create focused direct light or pulled out (right) to create dispersed ambient light
By constructing the lower diffuser of the same cells as its outer shade, Bazle enabled it to collect and reflect Plié Plissé's light according to your needs as it flexes up and down according to your adjustment. Up, the diffuser focuses and concentrates its light to help you keep on-task, whether you're cooking in your kitchen or doing paperwork at the dining room table. Down, Plié Plissé disperses the light in a warm glow, illuminating the space with gentle comfort, perfect for dinner conversation.
