Canadian Design Brand Darmes Unveils the Doppler Collection: A Fusion of Art, Craft, and Innovation
SPOTLIGHT
Quebec-based design studio Darmes continues to push the boundaries of contemporary lighting with the launch of the Doppler Collection. Inspired by the fluid, organic movement of rippling water, Doppler redefines conventional lighting design, balancing functionality with sculptural artistry.

The Inspiration Behind Doppler
The Doppler Collection emerged from a bold creative exploration at Darmes, led by founder Alex Joncas in collaboration with emerging designer Florian Martin. During the refinement of another lighting fixture, Joncas was captivated by the untapped potential of metal spinning — a precise and labour-intensive artisanal process. Determined to push the craft to its limits, Joncas and Martin embarked on an ambitious journey, meticulously studying and refining their designs through countless prototypes.
The result is a sculptural lighting collection that embodies movement, transforming familiar curves into a strikingly modern and functional form.
"I wanted us to push the limits of the metal spinning process to create unique shapes for a light fixture," explains Alex Joncas. "Doppler is the culmination of that challenge—an exploration of material, form, and craftsmanship."
