Michael Anastassiades Receives Well-Deserved International Recognition
Launched in 2003, the Elle Deco International Design Awards (EDIDA) is a unique international event where the twenty-five editors-in-chief for the Elle Decoration international network gather to award global excellence. The annual awards ceremony takes place in Milan during the famed Salone del Mobile event.
Widely respected for the meticulous care he puts into every single one of his iconic designs, Anastassiades has gained acclaim within the design industry for his ability to operate effortlessly in all the fields of design is well-admired. His designs are notable for being particularly self-descriptive, pure, and honest.
Born in Cyprus and based in London, Michael Anastassiades is a civil engineer and industrial designer with a master's degree from the Royal College of Art. He launched his studio in 1994 to explore contemporary notions of culture and aesthetics through a combination of product, furniture, and environmental design.
I feel very honoured to be awarded by EDIDA. It's an international award of an incredible standard. It's important to be acknowledged for your services as a designer, and it makes you want to keep on doing what you're doing.
Positioned between fine art and design, his work aims to provoke dialogue, participation, and interaction. He creates objects that are minimal, utilitarian and almost mundane, yet full of vitality one might not expect.
The clean and modern look of Anastassiades' IC light makes it one of our favourites!
What's important to realize as a lighting designer is that we're not trying to replicate the day. We're not trying to copy the day into the night. The important thing is to embrace darkness and to appreciate and introduce light in a very active manner.
The sleek Copycat table lamp design for FLOS embodies Anastassiades' minimalist approach.
His solo exhibitions include Time and Again at the Geymüllerschlössel/MAK. In 2007 he set up the company Michael Anastassiades Ltd. to produce his signature pieces: a collection of lighting, furniture, jewellery, and table top objects.
Huge congrats to Michael Anastassiades for this incredible achievement!
