Dan Yeffet
“As a designer, I feel I am constantly searching. It is the magic of the profession that we are always experimenting with uses, with forms, with approaches—each project is new.”
Dan Yeffet’s Hollow commands attention. Where other lamps offer their light and draw attention to the space and the other objects in it, Hollow, the product of a collaboration with WonderGlass, captures and sculpts the light to assert itself within the space. Even off—as he acknowledges most lamps are eighty percent of the time—Hollow has a strong and imposing presence. This strength and versatility is emblematic of Yeffet himself, as well as a theme often found in his designs.
Israeli born, Yeffet studied at the Bezalel Academy School of Art in Jerusalem before moving to the Netherlands and earning his BA in Industrial/Product Design from Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. After graduating in 2002, Yeffet established his own studio in Amsterdam, whimsically titled “JellyLab.”
Among JellyLab’s most innovative projects was a collaboration with Materialise for their .MGX brand, a line of 3D printed designs. Among these designs was the Hidden vase, which can be found in museum collections from Chicago to Luxembourg.
Further collaborations with manufacturers the world over would come as he moved the studio to Paris in 2005 and renamed it Dan Yeffet Design Studio, as the award-winning studio remains to this day. There, he continues to draw on his remarkably diverse history and influences and immense personal strength to innovate and challenge conventional thought on both materials and design.
